    Walter Branham Lumsden, Jr., Trustee Emeritus for King Passes

    It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Walter Branham Lumsden Jr., Trustee Emeritus for King College. He passed away at the age of 92 on Saturday, July 9, 2011, in Sweetwater, Tennessee.

    After receiving his degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Walter did graduate work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Sweetwater Kiwanis Club, and American Legion. In addition to serving as the past moderator for the Knoxville Presbytery and the Presbytery of East Tennessee, he served on the Sweetwater Library Board, Sweetwater Planning Commission, was past president and Lieutenant Governor for Kentucky and Tennessee Districts of Kiwanis International and Hixson Fellow Kiwanis International. He also served as the Monroe County (Tenn.) Historian.

    He is preceded in death by wife, Katherine Craig Oates Lumsden, parents, Walter B. Lumsden Sr. and Mary Isabel Turk Lumsden, and sister, Isabel Lumsden Couch. He is survived by his daughter, Lou Lumsden Lovingood and spouse Harris, grandsons, Branham Lumsden Lovingood and Craig Harris Lovingood, great-grandson, Anderson Gaines Lovingood, brother, Dr. Thomas N. Lumsden and wife India, as well as several nephews, nieces, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

    A Memorial Service was conducted Monday, July 11, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Sweetwater, Tennessee with Rev. Robert C. Oates and Rev. Tommy E. Preston officiating.
